Holi - What is it really about?

It’s time for one of the most favourite festivals of all time! Holi - the festivals of colour, a festival showing the power of good over evil, the power of burning away the evils. Introspection is key in our work, because each day, you have to think of how you are actually making a difference - and if it is all worth it! So.. Indian festivals are key introspective days for us!

The first day of holi (today!) is the Holika Dahan - or the burning of Holika. The story of Holika is very popular, and easily available on the internet, should you find yourself curious - but the key here is, is there a Holika inside all of us? What was wrong with Holika, with Hiranyakashyap? Their arrogance, their attitude. Hiranyakashyap was powerful, but instead of using that power for the good, he used it to think that he was indestructible and could never be challenged. Well.. guess what, even the best of us have a good old hamartia, a fatal flaw- and that’s what Holi is about. It shows that the fatal flaw that can bring our downfall - can be as tiny as thinking of yourself as superior. In this line of work, we’ve come across an uncountable number of people who think they know best - who think they are better than anyone else, sometimes with a design knowledge that is “better” than our artisans who’ve spent their entire life doing the work they do! That arrogance, is their hamartia. So this Holi, burn away your hamartia - whether it is a tiny bit of arrogance, or it is selfishness - get rid of that darkness! This Holika dayan, let’s burn away the Holika in our hearts and minds, and destroy the Hiranyakashyap in our thoughts! This year, whether you play with colours or not, make it a #HeartyHoli or a #DilKiHoli - and live from your heart! Wishing you a very Happy Holi ❤️
